Valenzuela forges alliance with Municipality of Saint Bernard, S. Leyte
The Valenzuela City government and the Municipality of Saint Bernard in the province of Southern Leyte established their partnership by signing a sisterhood agreement on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian and Municipality of Saint Bernard Mayor Edito Mulig led the signing of agreement at the Valenzuela City Hall.
According to the city government, the sisterhood agreement aims to promote favorable relations of partnership and cooperation, enhance mutual understanding and friendship which shall advance and expand beneficial cooperation for development, and foster meaningful technical exchange and cooperation for sustainable development, trade and investment, tourism, information technology, human development, as well as culture and the arts between the city and municipality.
It was done through the Resolution No. 2595, Series of 2022, approved by the City Council, which embodies the interest of Valenzuela City to establish a sisterhood relationship agreement with the municipality in Southern Leyte.
“From this day forward, meron po kayong big brother na nasa likod niyo, andiyan po ang Lungsod ng Valenzuela, si Senator WIN (Sherwin Gatchalian), si DSWD (Department od Social Welfare and Development) Secretary REX (Rexlon Gatchalian), andito po kami sa mga araw na kakailanganin ninyo ng tulong at hopefully, kung kami ay mangailangan ng tulong ay maasahan po namin kayo.” (From this day forward, you have a big brother behind you, the City of Valenzuela, Senator WIN, and DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) Secretary REX, we are here on the days you need help and hopefully, if we’re the ones in need we can also count on you)," Gatchalian said.
Mulig thanked the Valenzuela City mayor for the partnership.
The local government said that Mayor Mulig was a former engineer of Gawad Kalinga who helped the city and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) build the Disiplina Village Lingunan, a relocation site of Valenzuela City for informal settler families.
Municipality of Saint Bernard officials also inspected different facilities in the city, including the Allied Local Emergency and Evacuation Response Team (ALERT) Center, the Disiplina Village Bignay, the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center (VCDRRMO) Training Center, and the Wellness, Entertainment, Sports (WES) Arena.
Present during the event were the Sangguniang Bayan officials of Saint Bernard headed by Vice Mayor Jocelyn Bungcaras, Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Councilors Ricar Enriquez, Niña Lopez, Chiqui Carreon, Louie Nolasco, Liga ng mga Barangay President Councilor Jonjon Bartolome, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Goyong Serrano, and Pederasyon ng Barangay Kagawad ng Pilipinas (PBKP) President and Sabak President Coco Mayol.
The Municipality of Saint Bernard in Southern Leyte is the 76th Sister Municipality of Valenzuela City, the local government said.
