Public urged to join ‘Purple Wednesdays’ campaign
At a glance
Show your support for gender equality and women empowerment by wearing purple on all the Wednesdays of March, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) told the public a day before the country marks the National Women’s Month.
PCW said the color purple is globally recognized as “the color of women.” It symbolizes both justice and dignity.
“Make this your Wednesday habit this month of March. Just wear anything purple! You can also take photos and post them with the hashtags #WEcanbeEquALL and #PurpleWednesdays2023,” said PCW on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Apart from wearing purple, interested participants may also “light up or decorate” offices and landmarks in purple to attract more attention and trigger conversation on why the campaign is essential.
Purple Wednesdays is one of PCW's suggested activities for stakeholders and advocates in light of the annual Women’s Month celebration. Other initiatives include the distribution of information materials with detailed gender responsive programs, online forums, and music contests.
