President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has reappointed Manuel Antonio Teehankee as the Philippines' permanent representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Malacañang press briefer Daphne Oseña-Paez made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Teehankee, who served as the ambassador to WTO since 2017, was first appointed by Marcos in July 2022.

His appointment, however, was deferred by the Commission on Appointments (CA) in December last year as he was asked to submit to the committee a copy of the Understanding on Agreed Procedures that the Philippines and Thailand had signed to settle the trade disputes between the two countries.

Teehankee, a lawyer, served as the country’s envoy to the World Trade Organization in Geneva under the Duterte administration since 2017.

He also handled the position in 2004 to 2011.

The ambassador also served as an undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

He was also an undersecretary of the Department of Justice during the term of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

In 2012, he was awarded the DFA Distinguished Service Award for his diplomatic service to the country.
