BIÑAN CITY, Laguna – A 250-room drug addiction and behavioral issues treatment facility is set to open in Barangay Mamplasan here in March. Called A New Day Village, the facility is housed in a 5,000-square-meter property and is one of the biggest of its kind in the country and in Asia. The facility was established by cofounders Jun Tan, Joel de Chavez, and Bill Ibañez, who have also built a treatment center called TCI Village in Alfonso, Cavite, in 2016. TCI Village’s clients range from drug addiction and psychiatric patients to those who suffer from computer addiction and violent behavior. “It’s not just about getting rid of your drug problem, but improving the way you think and react to your parents, friends, and how you address your community as well,” Ibañez said. “Having been drug dependents ourselves who overcame addiction, palagi naming sinasabi na magkaron lang kami ng facility na maayos… Kung merong nangangailangan, andiyan kami (we always say that as long as we have a good facility, if anyone needs us, we are there).” The facility has a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and recovery coaches that help residents recover from their condition. They also believe in developing accountability, responsibility, and acceptance without being too dependent on medication. “Too much medication is also a complication. Sa dami nang iniinom na gamot, nagiging robot. ’Pag binawasan namin yung gamot, lumalabas yung normal selves nila (Too much medication turn them into robots. When we lessen their medication, their normal selves come out). They can feel more. They are more aware. They are more functional,” Tan said. Upon witnessing the development of TCI Village, the cofounders decided to build another facility closer to Metro Manila and welcome people from all walks of life. ''Nung sinabi ng grupo na magtatayo pa nang bago, sabi ko mas marami pang matutulungan, at mababalanse para sa mga hindi maka-afford (When the group said we will build a new one, I said we can help more people especially those who cannot afford it),” Chavez said. They said they want A New Day Village to be more than just a treatment facility but a healing place where residents can recuperate and find a “deeper meaning and purpose in life.”
