
Xavier School ruled the juniors division of the Private Schools Athletic Development Association (PRADA) Chess Team Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25, at La Salle Greenhills.
National Master Ivan Travis Cu led the Golden Stallions chess team to the championship as the Rolando Yutuc-coached squad also featured Jericho Cu, Lance Wentworth Chong, Ryan Taguba, Tristan Wong, and Josh See.
Xavier nabbed three wins and got one draw to top the five-team tournament in the high school division. San Beda-Alabang placed second, La Salle Greenhills ended up third, while rounding out the table were International School Manila and Ateneo.
The Golden Stallions also snared a bridesmaid finish in the midgets division behind champion Ateneo. Nathan Valdez, Jian Siy, Xander Lim, Matthew Chang, Philip Gregory Pe, and Karl Fajardo got two victories but could not hurdle the undefeated Blue Eagles in their last match. International School Manila was third and La Salle Greenhills was fourth.
