Carlos Yulo snagged a podium finish while Juancho Besana made waves against more experienced counterparts in the 2023 World Apparatus Cup in Cottbus, Germany Sunday, Feb. 26.

The former world champion Yulo salvaged his campaign with a bronze medal finish in the parallel bars after scoring 15.166 behind eventual champion Illia Kovtun of Ukraine and silver medalist Matteo Levantesi of Italy.

Kovtun registered 15.366 for the gold medal while Levantesi posted 15.266.

The podium finish came after Yulo failed to advance to the final by finishing 12th in vault, 13th in rings and 20th in his pet event, floor exercise qualifications.

Besana, meanwhile, showed he has what it takes against his world-class rivals and finished eighth in vault with 13.483.

Reigning world champion Artur Davtyan of Israel ruled the apparatus with 15.133, while Iran’s Mahdi Olfati and Hong Kong’s Wai Hung Shek clinched silver and bronze with 14.933 and 14.733, respectively.

The second leg of the World Cup series will be in Doha, Qatar from March 1 to 4.
