Security guard wearing PNP uniform arrested in Pasig
A male security guard was arrested for wearing one of the uniforms of the Philippine National Police (PNP) unauthorized in Pasig City on Friday, Feb. 24.
The report submitted to Pasig Police Chief Col. Celerino Sacro Jr. identified the suspect as “Mar,” 32, a security guard, and resident of Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.
According to initial investigation, police of the Manggahan Police Sub-Station (SS8) apprehended the suspect during a mobile patrol operation along Paseo De Anemalis Street in Barangay Santolan, Pasig City at around 7:45 p.m.
Upon questioning by the arresting officers, the suspect identified himself as a member of the PNP that was assigned to the Pasig City Police Station, said the report.
The suspect failed to present a PNP identification card when requested by the police.
The suspect is facing charges in violation of Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code, referring to the illegal use of uniform or insignia.
Col. Sacro stressed the consequences of non-police personnel illegally using official police uniforms or insignias.
“The penalty of prision mayor in its maximum period shall be imposed upon any person who shall publicly and improperly make use of insignia, uniforms or dress pertaining to an office not held by such person or to a class or persons of which he is not a member,” Sacro said in a statement.
The Pasig CPS Logistics Section regularly follows a “Tamang Bihis” policy that includes inspection of all personnel, as well as inventory of old PNP uniforms for proper disposal.
Tamang Bihis is done to help prevent the unauthorized use of PNP uniforms and other police apparel.
