Final surge of 'amihan' likely this week; cool breeze may end soon — PAGASA

Cool breeze may persist over the next few days with the possibility of the final surge of the northeast monsoon or “amihan” this week, a weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Feb. 26. “Nasa mga huling bugso na tayo ng northeast monsoon. Nakikita pa rin natin na posibleng lumakas pa ito sa linggong ito, kaya i-enjoy pa rin natin ang malamig na panahon, partikular na sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon (We are experiencing the final surge of the northeast monsoon. We still see it possibly getting stronger this week, so let’s still enjoy the cold weather, especially in large parts of Luzon),” PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said in the live weather update posted on PAGASA’s official social media page. “Pagdating natin sa buwan ng Marso magsisimula na uminit ang panahon at patungo na tayo sa panahon ng tag-init o dry season (As we reach the month of March, the weather warms up, as we are headed towards the hot or dry season),” Badrina added. The country’s cool and dry season is from December to February, while the hot and dry season is from March to May. Baguio City (COMMONS WIKIPEDIA/ MANILA BULLETIN/ FILE PHOTO) In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said cloudy and rainy weather may prevail in the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, and Quezon. PAGASA warned those in these areas to remain alert because of the threat of flooding or landslides caused by moderate to occasional heavy rains. The rest of Luzon, except Palawan, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light monsoon rains. Meanwhile, PAGASA said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms may prevail in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao. The public is also warned against possible flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
