The road leading to the farmlands and trading centers in Davao del Sur and nearby areas will now be travel-friendly with the completion of the P49 million road concreting project in Matanao town, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Sunday, Feb. 26.
DPWH Davao del Sur District Engineer Nicomedes Parilla Jr. said community members especially the farmers of Barangays Cabasagan and Bangkal will benefit from the project as the road network traverses the rice fields.
“May this road make the transportation of local farm produce such as bananas, rice and other vegetable crops be safe and efficient. With this, growth of agricultural businesses in the area will be sustained, as farmers may swiftly deliver their products to their respective distribution networks, within and outside the province,” Parilla stated.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Parilla said that the newly-paved road stretching 2.78 kilometers provides smoother and faster access between Barangays Cabasagan and Bangkal.
He added that the road links the neighboring communities to nearby schools, farms and markets.
“This road is the preferred route of the motoring public traveling to Barangay Bangkal and Barangay Asbang, which is known for the famous Talambato Batcave, Matanao Mountain Top & other nearby tourism destinations within the province,” he added.
With the completion of the project, Parilla expressed confidence that the growth of agricultural businesses in the area will be sustained “as farmers may swiftly deliver their products to their respective distribution networks, within and outside the province.”
The construction of Cabasagan to Bangkal Road was funded under the 2022 Regular Infrastructure Program, Convergence and Special Support Program-Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (CSSP-SIPAG).
