IFPI announces winner of Global Album Award; 6 K-pop acts in top 20 

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) revealed on Feb. 24 that Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” is the winner of its Global Album Award for 2022.

With this, Bad Bunny became the first Latin American artist to win an IFPI Global Chart Award. “Un Verano Sin Ti” was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

Six K-pop artists made it to the top 20 on IFPI”s Global Albums Chart 2022.

BTS’ “Proof” placed fourth this year, the highest ranking K-pop album on the Global Albums Chart. 

Stray Kids’ “Maxident” grabbed No. 6 and Seventeen’s “Face The Sun” is at No. 7. BLACKPINK’s “Born Pink’" is in eighth place. 

ENHYPEN’s “Manifesto: Day 1” bagged 11th place followed by Stray Kids’ “Oddinary” at No. 14, Tomorrow X Together’s “Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child,” No. 16 and Seventeen’s “Sector 17” is at No. 18.

Frances Moore, IFPI chief executive, said: “We are incredibly excited to award Bad Bunny, the first Latin American artist to win an IFPI Global Award, with the Album of the Year Award. His unique sound, encapsulated in his award-winning album Un Verano Sin Ti, has captured the world’s attention on a remarkable scale over the last 12 months.”

“This year’s Global Albums Chart bears testament to the incredible partnerships that exist between artists and record labels. These partnerships nurture and support artists while they write and record their music before going on to promote albums on a global level, achieving extraordinary amounts of success around the world,” she said. 

The Global Albums Chart takes into account all consumption formats, spanning physical sales, digital downloads, and streaming platforms across a calendar year. It is weighted based on the relative value of each method of consumption.

IFPI earlier announced the Global Artist Chart 2022 and Global Singles Chart 2022.
