The municipal mayor of Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur was wounded in an ambush perpetrated by two suspects riding in tandem on Wednesday night, Feb. 22, in Pasay City.
Col. Froilan Uy, city police chief, identified the victim as Mayor Ohto Caumbo Montawal of Tunggol Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur.
Montawal suffered a gunshot wound on his hip and left arm and was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila for treatment.
Uy said Montawal is now in stable condition and was transferred to the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa City.
Investigation showed that the incident happened around 9:25 p.m. along Roxas Boulevard Service Road in Barangay 4, Pasay City.
The city police chief said investigators are still reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the vicinity of the shooting incident for the possible identification of the suspects.
According to a witness, Ronald Caumbo, 43, the mayor, who was onboard a Toyota Hi-Ace, was traversing along the stretch of the Service Road of Roxas Boulevard heading towards Gil Puyat Avenue when two men riding in tandem drove close to their vehicle.
He said the motorcycle back rider suddenly drew a handgun and fired at them and sped away towards the direction of Buendia Avenue, Pasay City.
The police recovered two empty shells of an unknown firearm at the crime scene.
