Carmelo Anthony named FIBA World Cup ambassador

FIBA and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) have unveiled NBA star Carmelo Anthony as World Cup ambassador ahead of the sixth window of the Asian Qualifiers on Friday, Feb. 24. 

The former Lakers forward, who was spotted touring around Manila on Thursday, was officially introduced as the third global ambassador for FIBA World Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Anthony arrived in Manila on Wednesday and has since been making rounds on social media after being spotted at Rizal Monument in Luneta and even dining in a resturant in Intramuros. 

The 38-year-old will be joining former NBA players Luis Scola and Pau Gasol as ambassadors of the basketball event co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. 

The decorated basketball player was part of Team USA in 2006 which won bronze in the previously FIBA World Championships. 

Anthony is expected to be present when Gilas Pilipinas takes on Lebanon at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
