Car crash halts San Juanico Bridge light show

TACLOBAN CITY – A car from Basey, Samar bound for Tacloban City figured in an accident at the Samar side of the San Juanico Bridge on Friday, Feb. 24.

The driver and passengers sustained injuries while the railings of the bridge were detached. Necessary medical intervention and rescue operations were conducted.

However, despite not being directly affected by the incident, the San Juanico Bridge Aesthetic Lighting show will be temporarily suspended to assess the extent of damage and to ensure everyone's safety.

The provincial government of Samar reminded everyone to exercise extra caution and reasonable care to prevent road mishaps.

Earlier this month, an unexpected electrical breakdown at the San Juanico Bridge had affected scheduled aesthetic lights show. It immediately resumed after the necessary repairs were completed.

Inaugurated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Oct. 19, 2022, the San Juanico Bridge Aesthetic Lighting and Sound is a proponent project of the Samar provincial government funded through an P80-million outlay from the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority in 2018.
