ILOILO CITY– Hogs in Capiz province have been infected with African Swine Fever (ASF).
In a letter to the provincial government of Capiz, Department of Agriculture (DA)-6 (Western Visayas) Director Jose Albert Barrogo said test results from the Regional Animal Diseases and Diagnostic Laboratory confirmed that four hogs in Barangay Canapian in the municipality of Ma-ayon have ASF.
Barrogo assured Gov. Fredenil Castro, Dr. Leonel Abordo of the Capiz Provincial Veterinary Office, and Ma-ayon Mayor Raymund Malapajo that DA-6 will coordinate to curb the spread of ASF.
Meanwhile, the DA-6 suggested implementing protocols in affected areas such as quarantine and disease control measures, cull and dispose all remaining hogs, contact tracing, and field surveillance and sample collection in all farms and households with susceptible animals within the one-kilometer quarantine zone from the infected area.
Capiz is the third province in Western Visayas with ASF cases after in Iloilo and Guimaras.
