Suspect in robbery-slay of New Zealand man identified - SPD

The Southern Police District (SPD) announced on Thursday, Feb. 23, that they have already identified the suspect who robbed and killed a tourist from New Zealand in Barangay Pakanan, Makati City on Feb. 19.

In a media conference held at the SPD headquarters, the police identified the suspect as John Mar Manalo, who also has a standing warrant of arrest for robbery with violence issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 12, Malolos City, Bulacan.

It added that the Station Special Investigation Task Group was already deployed to apprehend Manalo and his cohort.

Police also offered a P500,000 reward money to anyone who can give information regarding the whereabouts of Manalo.

Manalo shot and killed 34-year-old Nicholas Peter Stacey, a tourist from New Zealand, after he and his cohort robbed him and his Filipina girlfriend.

According to Stacey's girlfriend, they were walking along Filmore Street when Manalo alighted from a motorcycle driven by his cohort and declared a holdup at gunpoint.

As Stacey resisted and tried to grab the suspect's gun, Manalo shot him in the chest, killing him.

After the shooting, the motorcycle-riding suspects took away the woman's cellphone and wallet and sped away toward Pasay City.

A case of robbery with homicide will be filed against the suspect, police said.
