Newly-released prisoner jumps from RoRo in Northern Samar waters

TACLOBAN CITY - A man who has been recently released from prison has been declared missing after he allegedly jumped from a Roll-on Roll-Off (RoRo) vessel while en route to Allen, Northern Samar.

The man was identified as Niño ‘Nono’ Chavez, 33, a resident of Catbalogan City in Samar.

Reports said that on Tuesday, Feb. 21, Chavez was crossing from Luzon via Fast Cat along the waters of Capul, Northern Samar when he reportedly jumped off the vessel for no apparent reason.

It prompted the crew to halt its voyage to conduct a Search and Rescue Operation and coordinate with the Philippine Coast Guard.

However, Chavez has not been found and remains missing as of this writing.

Initial investigation revealed that Chavez boarded a public utility bus, wherein he presented a Certificate of Discharge from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) as proof of his identity.
