Estomo is PNP's No. 3 man, Okubo named Metro Manila top cop

Police Maj. Gen. Jonnel C. Estomo is now the number three man of the Philippine National Police (PNP) following a major reshuffle involving three other key positions in the police organization.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. said Estomo will replace Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos who assigned to the Office of the Chief PNP.

Estomo’s appointment as PNP Deputy Chief for Operations would pave the way for his promotion to the rank of Police Lieutenant General since the position is a three-star rank post.

Estomo, who used to head the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) and the Police Regional Office 5, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1992 while Santos belongs to PMA Class 1991.

Azurin said Police Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo will replace his classmate Estomo as director of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Okubo will be replaced by Brig. Gen. Rudolph Dimas as the new director of the PNP’s elite Special Action Force, a position that is expected to earn him his second star.

Brig. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque, on the other hand, was named as Dimas’ replacement as the top cop of Bicol region.

Both Dimas and Obinque are members of PMA Class 1992.

Azurin said the revamp takes effect on Thursday, Feb. 23.
