Trike driver shot dead by riding-in-tandem gunmen outside residence in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A tricycle driver was shot dead by riding-in-tandem gunmen outside the victim’s residence in Cherry Lane, Barangay Tumaga here on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Mariella Samonte, the victim’s wife, said her husband, Rosalino Samonte y Jocson, was repairing his tricycle outside their house when he was attacked. From her house, she said she heard five gunshots and even saw the fleeing suspects, who she said were wearing helmets. The victim was previously working as a security guard in one of the cockpits. She said she doesn't know of anyone who might have a grudge against her husband. The shooting incident was the latest in a series of killings which caught the attention of local government officials. The local council is requesting the Land Transportation Office to relax the helmet law since most of the suspects in the shooting incidents were observed to be wearing full-face helmets.
