Would you wear these 'big red boots'?
Andrea Brillantes is never shy in exploring her personal style. She is one of today's rising fashion muses, gracing the pages of magazines and wowing everyone with her 'fits on TV and online. This time, the young star is sporting a pair of statement footwear. No, they're not high heels or any trendy athleisure sneakers but a pair of cartoonish boots.
Dubbed "Big Red Boots" (BRB), the pair is designed by American art collective MSCHF. One glimpse of it and it will instantly take anyone back to their childhood days as they look similar to what anime character Astro Boy is wearing.
MSCHF put them out for sale last Feb. 16 with a $350 price tag, that's around 19,000 in Philippine peso, and instantly became a viral sensation. American rappers Coi Leray, Rich the Kid, and Lil Wayne, among others, were seen rocking the peculiar boots.
Described as "cartoon boots for a coll 3D world," BRB are made of TPU-rubber and EVA foam. Their cartoonish sense aims to free "us from the constraints of reality." "It's a footwear design truism that the shape of a shoe is not the shape of a foot," MSCHF said. "Big Red Boots are really not shaped like feet, but are extremely shaped like boots."
This is not the first time MSCHF went viral because of its footwear. In 2021, it released "Satan Shoes" with American musician Lil Nas X, which contain a drop of human blood and feature an inverted cross and bronze pentagram design elements.
