Dolly de Leon graces BAFTA 2023 red carpet wearing Rajo Laurel gown

The noted Filipino fashion designer creates the ‘Alon’ gown

With her appearances at international awards ceremonies, Filipino actress Dolly de Leon has blessed us with numerous style moments. Many times, she uses her red carpet-appearances to spotlight the talents of Filipino fashion designers. She does it again at the 76th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) as she dons a sculptural couture piece by Filipino designer Rajo Laurel.

Dubbed “Alon,” the gown features wave-like design elements, mirroring Dolly’s journey after her performance in the “Triangle of Sadness” film. As her stylist LJ Perez puts it, “you made waves internationally and drowned them with your presence.” The look is paired with pumps by Steve Madden and jewelry pieces courtesy of Bulgari.

Dolly bagged a supporting actress award nomination at BAFTA 2023. Although “Banshees of Inisherin” star Kerry Condon took home the award, for Dolly, being nominated is already a “huge honor”—and it is. She is the first Filipino to be recognized by the prestigious award-giving body.

“It's very important that the voices of independent filmmakers are also heard because they have plenty of important stories to tell that the society needs to hear,” Dolly tells BFI UK.

Apart from BAFTA 2023, international award ceremonies such as the Golden Globes, Satellite Awards, and London Film Critic Awards recognized Dolly’s performance as Abigail in Ruben Östlund's "Triangle of Sadness."
