Vice President Sara Duterte condemned the assassination attempt against Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong Jr. and his companions—four of whom died—and called for justice to be served “immediately.”
“I condemn the ambush that apparently targeted Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong in the town of Maguing Friday,” she said in a statement on Saturday, Feb. 18.
“As a nation, we should collectively reject this cowardly act of violence and demand that the perpetrators are immediately brought to justice,” Duterte stressed.
Adiong and one of his aides—Ali Macapado Tabao—were hurt and four of their companions were killed during an ambush along the boundary of Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon on Friday, Feb. 17.
The four killed were identified as Juraij Adiong, Aga Sumandar, Jalil Cosain, and a driver identified only as Kobi.
She said that Adiong is the vice president of the political party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), which she chairs.
“I commiserate with the bereaved families of the four security escorts of Gov. Adiong who died in the ambush,” she said.
“I pray for the speedy recovery of Gov. Adiong and the other injured person,” Duterte added.
