A noontime thanksgiving parade is happening today, Feb. 18, in the town proper of Taytay as part of the celebration of the HAMAKA Festival 2023.
The office of Mayor Allan De Leon, in an announcement on the town’s social media pages, announced the parade will start at 12 noon from the Taytay Municipal Building grounds and will end at Kalayaan Park.
HAMAKA was coined from the words, “hamba” (door jamb), “makina” (sewing machines) and “kabuhayan” (livelihood) to symbolize the main industries of the town such as woodworks and garments.
The festival was established in the late 1990’s as a thanksgiving of the people of the town.
Various cultural events have been lined up by the municipal government as part of the celebration.
GMA TV’s Kapuso stars such as Jo Berry, Jillian Ward, Heaven Peralejo, Klea Pineda, AJ Raval, and Sanya Lopez have been invited to join the parade, according to the post on Facebook page of Taytay Public Information Office.
The municipal government has issued traffic advisory as the Feb. 18 event is expected to result in heavy traffic in the town proper and its vicinity.
President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos, Jr. through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin has declared Feb. 20, Monday, as a special non-working day in Taytay, Rizal.
