The illegal drugs were destroyed using the thermal facility of Cosmopolitan funeral Homes.

The destruction of the illegal drugs had been approved by the court, said Jigger Montallana, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PRO-7).

Included in the items that were destroyed were the numerous kilos of shabu that were seized from a South African national at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Montallana assured that the destruction of illegal drugs that were used as evidence in court hearings went through the process.

From the seizure, the PDEA-7 conducted the necessary examination and inventory of the illegal drugs, said Montallana.

Brig. Gen. Jerry Bearis, chief of the Police Regional Office, said destruction of illegal drugs with the approval of the court shows that the seized illegal drugs are not being recycled.

“We also want to send a message that confiscated illegal drugs are being properly disposed of,” said Bearis.

Records showed that the PDEA-7 has already conducted 11 illegal drug destruction activities since 2017.

The total amount of illegal drugs that were destroyed has reached more than P1 billion, the PDEA-7 said.
