Man shoots neighbor in Valenzuela


Police arrested a man on Friday, Feb. 17, for shooting his neighbor in Valenzuela City last Thursday, Feb. 16.

Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS) chief Col. Salvador Destura Jr. identified the arrested suspect as Ronnie Ticson, 33, a resident of Area 4, Pinalagad, Barangay Malinta.

According to the police report, the suspect and victim, Daniel Jeremiah Co, 25, argued at Pinalagad Dumpsite, Barangay Malinta, Valenzuela City at about 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said the suspect was allegedly looking for something from the victim but the latter could not provide.

The victim punched the suspect in the face, which prompted the suspect to pull out his gun and shot the victim in the head.

Ticson immediately fled while the barangay officials rushed Co to Valenzuela Medical Center.

Destura and operatives of the Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch (SIDMB) and Station Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted a follow-up operation and arrested the suspect at around 11:45 a.m. on Friday.

"May nakausap po kaming informant at sinabi nga po sa amin na nasa footbridge ng Gen. Tinio sa EDSA, Caloocan City ‘yung suspek (An informant told us that the suspect was at Gen. Tinio footbridge in EDSA, Caloocan City)," said Lt. Armando Delima, SIU chief.

While on their way to the police station, the suspect confessed where he hid the gun he used to shoot the victim.

Police recovered the improvised gun with .38-caliber bullet beside an electricity post on San Francisco St. in Barangay Karuhatan, Valenzuela City.

According to SIDMB chief Cpt. Robin Santos, the victim positively identified Ticson as the one who shot him.

The victim is currently at the East Avenue Medical Center and is scheduled for surgery due to the bullet lodged in his head.

"Na-background check po namin na may dati nang kaso itong si Ticson, BP-6 at robbery po dito sa Valenzuela, at R.A. 9165 naman po sa Caloocan noong 2018 (We did a background check and found out that Ticson had previous cases, BP-6 and robbery here in Valenzuela and R.A. 9165 in Caloocan in 2018)," added Lt. Delima.

Police said the suspect faces charges of frustrated homicide and for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
