4 dead, 2 hurt as Lanao guv ambushed by unknown gunmen – police


Four people were confirmed killed while two others were hurt when unidentified assailants ambushed Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal A. Adiong and his party in Maguing town on Friday, Feb. 17, police said.

Col. Redrico Maranan, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) public information office, identified the fatalities as Police Staff Sgt. Mohammad Jurai Mipanga Adiong, 40; Police Cpl. Johanie Lawi Sumandar, 39; and Police Cpl. Jalil Ampuan Cosain, 40, all were Adiong’s security aides; and the governor's civilian driver, “Kobi.”

Meanwhile, Adiong was hit in the right waist while one of his aides, identified as Ali Tabao, was hit in the feet.

A report from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office (PRO-BAR) said that Adiong was traveling with his party when they were waylaid by unidentified suspects at 3:38 p.m.

“Accordingly, they came from Marawi City going to Wao LDS and after they the rough road in Maguing, they were by undetermined number of perpetrators,” the PRO-BAR said.

Adiong and Tabao were brought to Kalilangan Hospital in Bukidnon for medication, police said.

An investigation was conducted to identify and arrest the suspects, and determine the motive behind the ambush.
