President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has appointed geologist Carlos Primo David as undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) geologist. He is the son of journalist-sociologist and known Marcos critic Randy David and the late former Civil Service Commission Chair Karina Constantino David.
Malacañang announced David's appointment on Feb. 14, but his appointment papers showed that he was appointed to the post last Dec. 28.
According to the DENR website, David, a professor at the National Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, is an undersecretary for integrated environmental science.
David's parents became prominent in the struggle against the dictatorship of the first Marcos administration. His maternal grandfather was Renato Constantino, a well-known historian and author.
The new DENR undersecretary is also the brother of broadcast journalist Kara David, UP Diliman's journalism department chair.
Meanwhile, President Marcos has also appointed several Philippine Coast Guard officials (PCG) and promoted its spokesperson Armando Balilo to the rank of rear admiral.
