Suspect in killing of Santo Domingo municipal lady councilor nabbed in Talavera
NUEVA ECIJA – The alleged killer of a lady councilor of Santo Domingo has been arrested, the Nueva Ecija police reported on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The police prompt action after the shooting of Santo Domingo municipal councilor Angelique Alexis U. Paulino in Guimba town led to the arrest of the suspect identified as Saddam Pascual, 32, an active member of the Philippine National Police assigned at Agoo, La Union.
The shooting incident transpired at around 6:15 a.m. on Feb. 12 along Nueva Ecija-Pangasinan road in Brgy. Maturanoc, Guimba.
The victim was driving her metallic gray sedan when the suspect, who was her former live-in partner, and riding on another car, overtook and shot her several times that led to her instantaneous death.
In the ensuing hot-pursuit operation by Guimba Police, the suspect was arrested in Brgy. Sicsican, in Talavera town, Nueva Ecija at around 1 a.m. the following day.
The suspect’s confession also led to a follow-up operation in the farmhouse of his parents in Brgy. Malayantoc, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija and led to the voluntary surrender of caliber .9mm pistol and magazine loaded with 15 ammunition.
Murder charges will be up against the suspect.
“I commend my men for this speedy resolution of this case so that justice could be served not only to the victim but also to her parents and constituents,” said Col. Richard Caballero.
“This successful arrest once again proved our commitment to revitalizing our effort in crime-solving to always protect the vulnerable citizenry from any form of harm and to ensure that lawless individuals committing such evil acts will be put behind bars of justice,” added Col. Caballero.
