Villar cites importance of community sport leagues

House Deputy Speaker and Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar has promised to organize more sports events in the city in order to teach valuable lessons to the youth as well as to keep the community tightly knit.

Villar had this to say following the recent conclusion of the Villar Cup Las Piñas inter-barangay Basketball and Volleyball League. The championship games for both sports were held at the Villar Coliseum last week.

The lady solon stressed the importance of post-pandemic physical activity in a bid to improve overall health and well-being of Las Piñeros.

“Suportado natin ang mga sports program para sa ating mga kabataan upang paigtingin ang pagkakaisa at sportsmanship ng bawat isa (We support sports programs for the youth so that they can nurture unity and sportsmanship). This is also an avenue to display their skills and develop their potential,” she said.

“We are looking forward to more sports activities in the future to strengthen camaraderie in our communities,” added the Nacionalista Party (NP) stalwart.

Villar was among the authors of a law establishing the National Academy of Sports, which will be established at the New Clark City in Tarlac province.

The Villar Cup featured basketball and volleyball teams from 20 barangays in Las Piñas.

Barangay Talon 4 emerged as the champion in the basketball league beating Barangay Daniel Fajardo in the finals, while Barangay CAA bested Barangay Talon 3 to become the volleyball champion. The teams received trophies and cash prizes.
