P360,000 fake cigarettes seized in Nueva Ecija


ZARAGOZA, Nueva Ecija – Police seized counterfeit cigarettes worth P360,000 from three individuals in this province on Friday, Feb. 10.

Col. Richard V. Caballero, Nueva Ecija police chief, said two suspects, alias ‘’Johnny,’’ 31, and alias ‘’Chiun,’’ 38, from China and residing in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, were arrested in a checkpoint on the Santa Rosa City-Zaragoza Road in Barangay Carmen here.

Caballero said the suspects onboard a van ignored the checkpoint, prompting police to chase them. They were eventually cornered and their vehicle yielded 20 boxes containing 1,000 reams of f H and P cigarettes valued at P240,000.

Also on Friday, police arrested a 33-year-old vendor for selling fake cigarettes in Barangay San Pascual, Talavera.

Seized from the suspect were 13 boxes containing 650 reams of Astro cigarettes worth P120,000.

Suspects will be charged for violation of Republic Act 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines).
