Cruise ship docks in Boracay


ILOILO CITY – An international cruise ship arrived at world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province for the first time since the pandemic began.

MV Seabourn Encore is the first international cruise ship to visit Boracay Island since the pandemic began in 2020. (Wilmor Abejero Jr.)

MV Seabourn Encore docked on Monday, Feb. 13, from Singapore with almost 600 tourists and 500 crew.

The provincial government, local government of Malay, and the Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomed the visitors.

The last time an international cruise ship arrived in Boracay was in 2019.

MV Seabourn Ovation was set to arrive in the island in February 2020 but had to cancel after passing by Hong Kong which registered positive Covid-19 cases.

The number of tourists who decided to go for an eight-hour tour of the beach, the souvenir shops, and the restaurants in Boracay was not disclosed.

Ten other cruise ships are expected to visit Boracay this year.
