CEBU CITY – Two e-vehicle charging stations have been launched here, boosting the government’s campaign to promote the use of green technology in Mindanao and the Visayas.
The e-vehicle charging stations are located at SM Seaside in South Road Properties and SM City Cebu in North Reclamation Area.
They were launched last Tuesday, Feb. 7, making this city the first area in the Visayas and Mindanao to have an e-vehicle charging station.
Rino Dominic Cabungcal, research analyst of the Department of Science and Technology-Central Visayas (DOST-7), said these charging stations will help promote the government's program on the use of sustainable green technology.
Cabungcal said it would take each charging at least two hours to complete depending on the brand and features of the car.
The charging stations are open daily during mall hours and mall management said these are all for free.
Charging an electric vehicle is just like charging a cellphone or a laptop, Cabungcal said.
These charging stations are compatible with all Type 2 electric cars, including Audi e-tron, BMW i3, Hyundai Ioniq, Jaguar, Kia, Range Rover, Renault Zoe, Mercedes Benz EQC, Mini Countryman, Porsche Taycan, Tesla, Volkswagen, Volvo XC T8, as well as Japanese cars Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander, and China cars such as BYD, Weltmeister, and Cherry.
Authorities believe that the demand for e-vehicles in the country will increase in the future.
