The House Committee on Agriculture and Food is expediting the conduct of its motu proprio investigation on the issue of agricultural products hoarding.
Originally scheduled on Wednesday, Feb, 14, the panel inquiry will instead be started today, Feb. 8, at 1:30 p.m.
This was confirmed by no less than agriculture and food panel chairman, Quezon 1st district Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga.
"Sorry for the short notice. As a priority of the Speaker and the committee, we will start our inquiry today Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.," Enverga told House of Representatives reporters in a text message Wednesday morning.
The Enverga panel had originally scheduled a lone hearing this morning on pending bills linked to livestock.
For the past few days, Romualdez had assailed alleged hoarders of onions, garlic, and other agricultural products from the business community, saying they are the cause of price spikes on these commodities.
The inquiry on hoarding is separate from the committee's ongoing probe against agricultural product smuggling.
