Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Camarines Norte — Phivolcs

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Camarines Norte on Tuesday evening, Feb. 7, based on the earthquake information issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake struck 15 kilometers northeast of Tinaga Island, Vinzons, Camarines Norte around 9:46 p.m.

Its instruments recorded the tremor at Intensity V (strong) in Mercedes, Camarines Norte; Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Daet, Camarines Norte; Intensity III (weak) in Ragay, Camarines Sur; Intensity II (slightly felt) in Tabaco City, Iriga City, and Guinayangan and Polillo in Quezon; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Legazpi City, and Lopez, Gumaca, Mulanay and Mauban in Quezon.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

It advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur.
