The outfit worn by K-pop idol group BTS’ J-Hope for his album cover shoot sold for nearly $22,000 in an auction in California.
Julien’s Auctions held the MusiCares Charity Relief Auction in Beverly Hills and online on Feb. 5. MusiCares is the foundation by The Recording Academy, which holds the annual Grammy Awards.
One of the items that was auctioned was J-Hope’s outfit he wore for the album cover photoshoot for his debut studio album “Jack in the Box,” which was released in July last year.
The ensemble, donated by Big Hit Music, consisted of J-Hope’s black jumpsuit, t-shirt and a bunny ear beanie.
According to Julien’s Auctions, the ensemble was estimated to fetch bids from $4,000 to $6,000. In the end, J-Hope’s ensemble sold for $21,875 (P1.2 million).
“The ensemble includes a black utility-style jumpsuit with two front pockets, two breast pockets, two cargo pockets, two back pockets, and a buckle belt, with a QR code sticker on the interior, labeled, "99% IS," size 3 (Korean sizing); a black 100% cotton t-shirt with distressing along the hem and neckline, with a QR code sticker on the interior, labeled "99% IS," size 3 (Korean sizing); and a black ribbed bunny ear beanie with wiring in the interior lining, no size or label present. Accompanied by a photo of j-hope wearing the ensemble,” according to the auction house.
"I'm thinking of an album art that also has me in it, and I'm honored to say that art designer KAWS agreed to create a great art cover. It's a great honor. I'm so happy that I can't hold it in," said J-Hope in a video documenting the shoot for “Jack in the Box,” the auction house added.
The MusiCares auction offered “numerous items of unique memorabilia, including signed instruments, handwritten lyrics, records, and more, representing some of the biggest stars in the music industry, such as: Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, The Who, Robert Plant, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Sting, Aerosmith, Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Lenny Kravitz, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Slipknot, Depeche Mode, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles.”
Proceeds will benefit MusiCares, which “helps the humans behind music because music gives so much to the world. Offering preventive, emergency, and recovery programs, MusiCares is a safety net supporting the health and welfare of the music community.”
