Brother of mayor in Negros Oriental killed; body dumped on street


BACOLOD CITY – Police are probing the death of the younger brother of Valencia, Negros Oriental Mayor Edgar Teves Jr.

Police identified the victim as Don Paulo Teves, 42, married, of Barangay South Poblacion in Valencia.

Initial investigation said a resident found the body of Teves wrapped in a plastic bag and a blanket in Purok 3, Barangay Calayugan, Valencia at past 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6.

He was later identified by residents and some policemen who knew him.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in the head.

Col. Reynaldo Lizardo, acting provincial police director, said that a Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives (SOCO) team was working on the case.

“I have given them instructions to dig deeper into the case, gather all vital information surrounding his death, and check security camera videos within a 500-meter radius at the place of discovery,” Lizardo said in mixed English and Filipino.

The motive of the incident has yet to be determined, he added.

No other details were provided as investigation is ongoing.

Police said the victim had no link or connection with the government. (with a report from PNA)
