Robbery suspect dies after grabbing cop's firearm in QC 


A robbery suspect died after he reportedly grabbed the service fireamarm of a cop inside the Police Community Precinct 1 (PCP1) in Tandang Sora Avenue, Brgy. Culiat, Quezon City on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14) identified the deceased suspect as Jose Lemery Palmares Jr., 33, resident of Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

According to the police report, the suspect was involved in a robbery hold-up incident at a bakery shop along Congressional Extension, Brgy. Culiat, Quezon City at 4:31 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Police said the suspect immediately fled after taking the money as well as the cellphone of the cashier of the bakery.

PS 14 operatives conducted a manhunt operation on the following day, Feb. 5.

Palmares was collared at Sitio Balud, Congressional Avenue Extension, Brgy. Culiat, Quezon City at 5:10 a.m. on the same day.

Recovered from the suspect's possession were the cashier's sim cards.

Police said that while the suspect was undergoing a booking procedure, he allegedly grabbed the gun of Staff Sgt. Juderick Latao, investigator-on-case.

Police said Latao was occupied collecting the ten fingerprints of the suspect when Palmares took the gun.

Maj. Jun Fortunato witnessed the two fighting for the gun and had no other recourse but to shoot the suspect.

The suspect was rushed to Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH) for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival at 6:14 a.m.

QCPD Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) Cpt. Eric Angayangay recovered one fired cartridge case from the crime scene.

PS 14 said the case will be turned over to QCPD-SOCO, QCPD Crime Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) for further investigation.
