DICT fastracks establishment of free Wi-Fi tower in Marinduque

Committed to the national government’s aim of making the Philippines a digitally competitive nation, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) started another initiative to improve connectivity in remote areas.

The DICT led the “Free Wi-Fi for All Ceremonial Launching and National Broadband Plan Ground Breaking Ceremony” in Boac, Marinduque on Friday, Feb. 3. This ground breaking ceremony will pave the way for the establishment of a free Wi-Fi tower under the department’s Broadband ng Masa program.

“Through the Broadband ng Masa initiative, more Filipinos will have access to ICT services that will give them opportunities for growth and development, and enable them to participate in the progressive digital economy,” said DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy during the ceremony.

The tower will be 42m tall and will provide “multiple connectivities” in the province according to Uy.

“ will provide very high-speed and very high capacity connectivity to the province. With that, we are confident that under the leadership of Governor Velasco, Marinduque will become a very developed and highly-connected province,” he furthered.

The national government seeks to establish 15,834 free Wi-Fi sites in the Philippines in 2023 alone.
