3 cops nabbed, yield P1.4-M ‘shabu’ in Cavite buy-bust

CAVITE – Three members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and their companion were arrested in a buy-bust operation that resulted in the confiscation of over P1.4 million worth of suspected shabu in Dasmariñas City on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

In a statement, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the suspects as Corporal Christian Arjul Dayrit Monteverde, Staff Sergeant Tomas Celleza Dela Rea Jr., and Patrolman Jeru Magsalin Set, all detailed at Dasmariñas City Police Station (CPS).

One Jorilyn Magnaye Ambrad, a high-value individual, was also arrested.

Dasmariñas CPS reportedly got a tip that three of their police officers were involved in illegal drugs.

After planning and close monitoring, the police station conducted a sting in coordination with the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 4A (RPDEU 4A), Cavite Police Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional Intelligence Unit 4A, PNP Drug Enforcement Group-Special Operations Unit 4, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 4A.

Among the confiscated pieces of evidence were two plastic bags containing suspected “shabu” with an estimated street value of P1,431,600; wallets with PNP identification cards; guns and ammunition; and a car.

The arrested suspects were initially taken to RPDEU 4A but were turned over to the custody of Dasmariñas CPS following the inquest proceedings on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Cavite PPO director Colonel Christopher F. Olazo ordered the immediate relief of the police officers from their unit.

“As your provincial director, I will not tolerate any member of the organization who violates the law. Those who found positive for illegal use and involvement in illegal drug trade will be sanctioned and subject for dismissal from the police service,” Olazo said in a statement.
