Strong rains, flood hit Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- At least eight barangays here experienced flooding due to strong rains which hit Zamboanga City late Tuesday morning, Jan. 31.

The affected barangays are Tumaga, Guiwan, Putik, Pasonanca, San Jose Gusu, San Roque, Cabatangan, and Baliwasan.

Majority of affected residents live near riverbanks where water level rose and forced families to flee to safer grounds.

Power in at least seven areas was switched off by the local power utility company to avoid accidents.

Water level at the Pasonanca dam has reached to as high as 75.86 meters from the normal level (74.20 meters).

This is the third major flooding incident in Zamboanga City since October 28 last year.
