A congresswoman who represents overseas Filipino workers (OFW) became emotional after she spoke about the case of Jullebee Ranara, the slain Filipino domestic helper from Kuwait, on the plenary floor.
OFW Party-list Rep. Marissa Magsino was delivering a privilege speech Monday, Jan. 30 on the sorry state of distressed OFWs in cramped Bahay Kalingas abroad when she segued to Ranara.
Some three days earlier, Ranara’s remains were flown back to the Philippines in what was a very heart wrenching experience for her loved ones.
"Nakakalungkot isipin, nakakalungkot ang ating isang kababayan, ang ating isang OFW na si Jullebee Ranara ay inihatid (It's sad to think about it, it's sad that one of our countrymen, one of our OFWs, Jullebee Ranara, has been flown hiome), was brutally killed in Kuwait," Magsino said.
"Siya po ay ni-rape, siya po ay nabuntis, siya'y sinagasaan at sinunog po ng alleged na anak ng kanyang employer. Masyado pong nakakaawa, karumal-dumal (She was raped, impregnated, she was run over and her body burned by the alleged son of her employer. It's very pitiful, brutal)," continued the neophyte solon.
It was at this point that Magsino paused to gather herself, but still couldn't stop her tears from flowing.
"Walang habag-habag ang taong gumawa nito sa ating kababayan na gusto lamang maghanapbuhay. Hindi po makatao, hindi po tao. Animal po (The person who did this to our countryman who merely wanted to work has no mercy. It's not humane, he's not human. He is an animal)," she said, her voice breaking.

The still sobbing Magsino then appealed to Malacañang to work toward achieving justice for the slain OFW.
"Gusto ko po, hinihiling ko po kay Presidente Bongbong Marcos na harinawa, bigyan po ng tunay na hustisya ang pagkamatay po ni Jullebee Ranara (What I want, my wish is for President Bongbong Marcos to give true justice to the death of Jullebee Ranara)," she said, afterwhich she apologized to her colleagues for breaking down in her speech.
