ILOILO CITY – More than 200 houses were razed in a fire that hit a residential area here before dawn Saturday, Jan. 28.
The Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) said 234 houses were damaged in Barangays West Habog-Habog and San Juan in Molo District.
One-hundred seventy-two houses were lost in Barangay West Habog-Habog and 62 in Barangay San Juan.
The number may go up as authorities are still gathering data.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas assured all resources will be used to help the fire victims.
“Ubrahon ta ang tanan para makabulig sa pag bangon sang mga apektado sa sunog (We will do our everything to help those who were affected by the fire),” Treñas said.
He deployed doctors and nurses from the Iloilo City Health Office to evacuation centers to ensure the health and safety of evacuees and safe water supply and sanitation. This city was under a state of calamity last year due to high number of water-borne disease acute gastroenteritis.
The Bureau of Fire (BFP) is still investigating the cause of the fire.
