Tigers bounce back; Kings still unscathed

SAN FERNANDO — Stung the last time out, defending champion Davao Occidental-Cocolife vented its ire on Sta. Rosa Laguna, scoring an 82-68 drubbing last Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Manila Bankers Life-Pilipinas Super League Pro Division Second Conference Dumper Cup at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here.

Former PBA player Larry Rodriguez wound up with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, on top of four assists for the Tigers, while Gab Dagangon provided ample help with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Veterans John Wilson and Keith Agovida also had 12 points each as Davao Occidental redeemed itself from a stunning 85-89 loss to Cagayan De Oro-PSP last week and rose to 8-1 for second in the tilt presented by Winzir and co-presented by Skin Care Depot, SCD Cosmetics and Dumper party-list, and supported by NET 25, Adcon, Wcube Solutions Inc., MDC, Unisol, Don Benitos, and Finn Cotton, with PBA and Gilas Pilipinas great Marc Pingris serving as Commissioner.

The Lions saw their four-game winning run, counting a 69-66 decision over Bicol also last week, come to screeching halt for a 6-2 card.

In the other game, San Juan held off Cagayan De Oro 90-83 for its seventh straight win.

AC Soberano knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 16 points for the Kings, while Ron Dennison added 12 points and four rebounds.

Romel Calahat, Nikko Panganiban, and Jaymo Eguilos had 11, 11, and 10 points, respectively for San Juan, which scored a fitting follow up to a 73-70 triumph over Nueva Ecija last Saturday and remained unbeaten with a 7-0 mark.

Cagayan De Oro slipped to 2-8.

Marvin Lee was the lone bright spot for Sta. Rosa with 20 points.

Jeff Comia paced Cagayan De Oro with 23 points, while Omar Larupay and Jopet Soriano got 12 apiece.
