Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11934, otherwise known as the SIM Registration Act, all new and existing SIM cards in the country shall be registered until April 26, 2023. With this law in effect, what will happen if a registered SIM gets stolen or lost?
Losing a SIM card is not a rare occurrence. With stricter law surrounding this matter, what should one do if they find themself in this situation? According to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the answer is simple: a subscriber is obligated to immediately report to the authorities if a SIM gets stolen or lost.
“End users subscribers have the obligation to immediately report to their respective the lost or stolen SIM,” said NTC.
NTC strongly reminded the public that the selling of stolen SIMs is prohibited under the law.
“An imprisonment ranging from six months to two years, or a fine of not less than P100,000 but not more than P300,000 or both shall be imposed,” it reiterated.
