The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has earned more than P7 million in fine in its campaign against colorum passenger utility vehicles (PUVs).
LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said the amount was from the September to December last year that involve 37 vehicles illegally operating in the National Capital Region (NCR) and those under the Metro Manila Urban Transportation Integration Study Update and Capacity Enhancement Program (MUCEP) areas.
Vehicles apprehended include those operating as premium taxis, private motor vehicles (MVs), regular taxis, tourist transport service (TTS) or UV Express.
Guadiz also ordered all regional directors to step up the campaign against colorum vehicles in their respective areas.
"We also want to remind the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to ensure safe travels and that they pay the correct fares in going to their destinations," said Guadiz.
Likewise, Guadiz also instructed all LTFRB regional directors to ensure that their enforcers would look dignified and presentable.
"Law enforcers in Manila have their own uniforms unlike in the provinces, where there are those who reportedly wear denim pants or rubber shoes while on duty, which does not look good for the law enforcers," said Guadiz.
He said he had already issued a memorandum to ensure that LTFRB law enforcers in the regions be given uniforms.
“The uniform will distinguish them from other law enforcement agencies. It will also give them a sense of honor and pride when they enforce laws against erring operators,” he said.
