ILOILO CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is expediting the construction of a new tourism road in Makato town, Aklan province.
The P33.3-million access road that spans 1.74 kilometers long and 6.10 meters wide is a convergence project with the Department of Tourism, according to DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno.
“When completed, the 2-lane access road project will provide a better roadway leading to beaches in Barangay Baybay and to Bakhawan Park located along the river in Barangay Alibagon, which can potentially boost the economy and tourism industry in Makato,” said Bueno.
The DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office is implementing the project.
The concreting of 550 lineal meters of the road has already been completed, said Bueno.
The new tourism road is also set to benefit the fishing community in Tugas, Calimbajan, Baybay, and Alibagon.
