Bulacan First District Rep. Danilo A. Domingo expressed his desire for the City of Malolos to have its own legislative district during the commemoration of the 124th anniversary of the First Philippine Republic held at the grounds of Barasoain Church on Monday, Jan. 23.
Domingo believes that to usher more growth, the City of Malolos needs to have its own representative in Congress who will solely focus on the needs of the 51 barangays in the booming historic capital city.
It can be recalled that in 2015, residents of Malolos called on the Committee on Local Government of the House of Representative to support House Bill (HB) 655, an act that will transform the City of Malolos into a lone congressional district. It was filed by former Bulacan First District Rep. Ma. Victoria R. Sy-Alvarado.
During his speech last Monday, Domingo urged the residents of Bulacan to follow the Constitution.
“As inheritors, it is our duty to make sure that we follow the Constitution. Let us use every moment of our independence to do right and good for our fellowmen.”
Domingo said the institutionalization of the First Philippine Republic has shown to the world the ability of the Filipinos to have a free republic that will draw its own fate as a nation.
“Ang unang republika ay malaya, independiente. Ang Malolos Constitution ay hindi utak o dikta ng sinumang bansa o sektor na may sariling interes,” (The first republic is free and independent. The Malolos Constitution was not created or dictated by any country or sector with self-interest)," Domingo said.
For his part, Bulacan Gov. Daniel R. Fernando said that as elected officials of the government, it is their duty to serve diligently and faithfully their constituents who have given their trust on them.
Earlier, Domingo and Fernando led hundreds of Bulakenyos in a flag-raising ceremony and wreath-laying activity at the monument of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first Philippine president.
