A 19-year-old student died after he allegedly fell from the ninth floor of a building inside the University of the East (UE) campus in Caloocan City on Monday morning, Jan. 23.
According to the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS), a school utility personnel heard a loud noise at 6:25 a.m. He later discovered the victim’s body lying in the drainage.
Based on the Facebook post of UE Dawn, UE’s publication, the victim fell from the Lucio C. Tan Building inside the campus.
The victim was rushed to the Manila Central University Hospital but was pronounced dead at around 10:30 a.m. His body was transferred to Floresco Funeral Services at about 2:30 p.m., on the same day.
Meanwhile, UE management expressed sadness over the incident.
It said that the school coordinated with CCPS to probe internally and that the "investigation results clearly showing the absence of any foul play or disregard by any other individual."
"That said, the entire UE community is in mourning in the wake of this tragic loss of a young life, and we enjoin everyone to pray for his eternal repose," the statement read.
The management said that it would provide the support that the victim's family may need.
It reminded its students not to hesitate to reach someone when facing problems. It also provided contact information of the school's Guidance, Counseling and Career Services Office (GCCSO) and National Center for Mental Health Crisis, which administer to individuals who encounter distress.
