Cavite: College student dead, 4 injured in campus truck accident


CAVITE – One student died while four others were injured in an accident at Cavite State University (CvSU) main campus in Indang on Monday, Jan. 23.

In a press release, Cavite Police Provincial Office says they received a report from CvSU's Director of University Civil Security Service about the fatal accident involving a truck.

Investigation showed the truck was parked inside the campus while its driver and another helper were unloading containers of mineral water from the vehicle.

The truck reportedly moved forward and hit five first-year college students.

One of the victims, Elaiza Gebrielle S. Tesoro, 18, died on the spot.

Four others, namely Fiona C. Gatchalian, Gabriel Angelo C. Magno, Denise Chloe R. Ricohermoso, and Pauline E. Diga, sustained injuries.

Gatchalian, Diga, and Magno were taken to General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, while Ricohermoso, who incurred minor injuries declined to be confined at the hospital.

The truck driver is now under the custody of the Indang Municipal Police Station.

In a statement posted on Facebook, CvSU says the university condoles with the Tesoro family and that they are coordinating with the victims' families to offer assistance.

CvSU Main Campus' official publication, The Gazette, also posted photos of a candle-lighting event held inside the campus on the evening of the accident.
