Filipino actress Dolly de Leon made history at the 76th British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) after she was nominated for best supporting actress, it was announced on Jan. 19.
De Leon, 53, was cited for her role as Abagail, the cool toilet cleaner, in the acclaimed movie "Triangle of Sadness."
This is the first time that a Filipino actor was nominated in the major acting category of the BAFTA, the equivalent of the Oscars in the US.
Other nominees were Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), and Carey Mulligan (She Said).
All Quiet on the Western Front received 14 nominations, the film with the most number of nominations this year. It was followed. by Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once with 10 nominations each.
The EE BAFTA Film Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 19, and will be broadcast at 7pm on BBC One & BBC iPlayer in the UK and around the world.
