Foreigner tagged in 'violent' robbery in Japan arrested in Iloilo


Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a 44-year old Japanese man who was tagged as responsible for a daring and "violent" robbery in Japan in 2020.

CIDG director Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat said the operation that resulted in the arrest of Yano Yohhei on Jan. 17 in Guimbal, Iloilo was based on the coordination with the Bureau of Immigration in connection with the arrest warrant issued against him.

Yohhei was charged in connection with the robbery at the Heaven’s Kaitori Center, Kubota, Yokkaichi-city at the Mie prefecture on Feb, 6, 2020. He allegedly robbed the area with a certain Nakamura Sho.

"By means of violence using tear gas spray and knife to advance their illicit plan, they successfully stole about 882,909-yen and 2,558,340 yen and 70 gold items with historical value," said Caramat.

The suspect yielded a handgun during the operation.

Caramat said the arrested suspect was taken to the BID Detention Facility Bicutan, Taguig City.
